A lot of style statements and new trends came up in the decades of 70 s and 80 s. The designs were state-of-the-art and leading edged and struck a chord with many people. The fashion had changed very rapidly during those years. It was because of the launch of MTV which brought a huge revolution in the field of fashion, music industry and whatever it relates to. During those year everyone was trying to reinvent themselves to match the changing times. Such changes taken by people in them were hasty and unceremonious.
During 70s people used to wear tight upper wear with a loosely fitting bottom wear. This trend just reversed itself in 1980s. Women were noticed in bold designs with pads on shoulders. Men switched to wear full sleeve shirts crafted from costly fabric with baggy loose trousers which subsided towards the lower portion.. New designer romantic look started the romantic movement being inspired by the former punks. The hot and trendy outfits of leather and designer jeans also came forth later and became part of fashion.
Women wore high heeled, pointed shoes in corporate fraternity. Jelly shoes characterised by their clear and glossy colour became popular at parties. Tracksuits and jog-pants became leisure wear in this era. Music bands with tattooed and pierced bodies and faded, acid washed jeans became popular. Men begun to use flashy earrings. The hair looked shiny with volume for which mousse was used quite a lot in those times. Colored and streaked hair came into style. The whole trend of hair was reversed as men had long hair while women had short hair.
Jewellery encrusted with precious stones became a display of wealth and power. Women resorted to wearing long earrings, often different in both ears. At times, they even wore single earrings. Fine gold and silver chains, punk style, neon colours in jewellery defined trends. Jewellery with enamel and modern designs were chosen over the old styled jewellery. Digital watches with metal wristbands began popularising the starting of 80s but afterwards adults returned to dial watches. Teens still preferred the radiant colours of plastic wrist watches. Watch faces had roman numerals. The status defining design was Movado then which featured a sleek watch with a dot at 12. Once in a blue moon people also used multiple watch at a time. People also made it a point to use fine gold bracelets and hoops earrings.
Other trend setters included designer bags made from leather. Clutch bags were common as they were compact and thus appealing. Briefcases were also in huge numbers. Women were accustomed to match up their shoe colour with that of their bags. Various kinds and designs of shawls with assorted colours were available for numerous occasions. Women wore shawls with tank tops during the day which changed into gowns at night. Designer under garments also set styles. Women preferred the ones with laces and light colours. Colorful boxer shorts in different patterns and stripes became available for men. Small eye glasses with metal frames became a rage in these days. However round and small glasses remained common in the entire 80 s. Fashion had heavy influence on everyday living of those years.
